What does the Money Manager Ex export do?
Money Manager Ex (MMEX) is a free, open-source personal finance app for the desktop. Invoice My Clients writes the payments you have received from clients into a file MMEX can import: a CSV with its columns already named, or a QIF bank account file. It is an export, not a live link: you download the file and import it into MMEX yourself.
Switch it on under Settings > Integrations > Exports > Money Manager Ex. A Money Manager Ex card then appears on the Receipts page and exports the payments shown there, so the Receipts search and date range decide what goes into the file.
- CSV or QIF: pick the format you want to import.
- One file per currency, because an MMEX account has one currency.
- Oldest payment first, filed under Income and Sales.
- On every plan, including Free. Off until you switch it on.
02 / Capabilities
Payments into MMEX without retyping
For freelancers and small businesses who keep their books or personal finances in Money Manager Ex.
CSV with named columns
Date (YYYY-MM-DD), Payee (the client), Amount (a plain number such as 25.50), Category (Income), SubCategory (Sales) and Notes (Invoice <number>, <payment method>).
QIF bank account file
A !Type:Bank file with one record per payment, category Income:Sales, and a memo with the invoice number and payment method. MMEX imports it with no column mapping.
One file per currency
US dollar payments land in invoice-my-clients-payments-USD.csv (or .qif) and every other currency gets its own file, so each file matches one MMEX account.
Exports what you see
The export takes the payments currently shown on Receipts. Narrow them with the search and date range first, for example to last month.
Oldest payment first
Payments are written in date order, oldest first, so the file reads like an account register.
Off by default
The Money Manager Ex card only appears on Receipts once you switch the export on in Settings, so it stays out of the way until you need it.
03 / Process
How to import client payments into Money Manager Ex
Switch on the export
In Settings, open Integrations > Exports > Money Manager Ex and switch on "Show the Money Manager Ex export on Receipts". It is off by default.

Import it into MMEX
In Money Manager Ex, use Tools > Import > CSV Files and map the columns once, saving the mapping as a preset, or use Tools > Import > QIF Files, which needs no mapping.
04 / FAQ
Money Manager Ex FAQs
Is this a live link to Money Manager Ex?
No. It is a file export. Invoice My Clients downloads a CSV or QIF file and you import that file into Money Manager Ex yourself, whenever you choose.
Which plans include it?
Every plan, including Free. It is off by default: switch it on under Settings > Integrations > Exports > Money Manager Ex.
Should I use CSV or QIF?
QIF imports with no column mapping. CSV needs its columns mapped once in MMEX under Tools > Import > CSV Files, and you can save that mapping as a preset for the next import.
What if clients pay me in more than one currency?
You get one file per currency, named for it, such as invoice-my-clients-payments-USD.csv, because an MMEX account has a single currency. Import each file into the account for that currency.
Which payments end up in the file?
The payments currently shown on the Receipts page, oldest first. The Receipts search and date range apply, so set them before you export.
