Time tracking Chrome extension that turns hours into invoices

Invoice My Clients: Time Tracker puts your timer and your unbilled hours in the Chrome toolbar.

Start a timer from the tab you are working in, see what each client owes you, and send the invoice without opening another app. It is the same timer as the Invoice My Clients web app.

01 / Chrome Extension

A time tracker that lives where you work

Most billable work happens in a browser: a design file, a client’s site, a support inbox. Invoice My Clients: Time Tracker keeps the timer one click away in the Chrome toolbar, so you start it when the work starts instead of trying to remember it at the end of the week.

It is not a separate time tracking service. Everything you track goes into your Invoice My Clients account, the same entries, clients, projects and rates you see in the web app, and the hours you track become invoice lines from the same popup.

  • Start or stop the timer from the toolbar, with Alt+Shift+T, or by right-clicking the page.
  • One timer per account: start it in Chrome and stop it in the web app, or the other way round.
  • See unbilled hours and amounts for every client, and send the invoice from the popup.
  • No password in the extension, and no access to the websites you visit.

02 / Capabilities

Everything between the first minute and the paid invoice

What the extension does, from the toolbar.

A timer in the toolbar

Pick a client and a project, see the hourly rate that will apply, and start. The toolbar badge shows how long the timer has been running.

Right-click and keyboard

Press Alt+Shift+T anywhere to start or stop. Right-click a page and choose "Start timer for this page" to time it under the page title, or select text and choose "Log time" to use it as the description.

Log time by hand

Forgot the timer? Log a duration for a date, with a description, and mark it billable or not.

Idle time, handled

Step away with the timer running and the extension asks what to do with the idle time: keep it, discard it, or stop when you left and start a new timer. You set the idle threshold, from 5 to 60 minutes.

Reminders and budget alerts

A timer still running at the end of the day, a weekly summary of unbilled time and, if you turn it on, a weekday with nothing logged. Budget alerts at 80% and 100% of a project’s hours. Change or turn off each one in settings.

Works offline

Starting, stopping and logging time are saved on your computer while you are offline and sent when you are back online.

Unbilled time, by client

The Invoice tab lists every client with unbilled time: the hours and the amount, from the time you tracked.

Hours to a sent invoice

Pick the entries, group the lines by task, day or week, and check the total. Send the invoice to your client’s email, or save it as a draft to finish in the web app.

Know when it is viewed and paid

Copy the payment link when the invoice has one, and get a notification when your client views the invoice and when it is paid. Add a new client or project without leaving the extension.

03 / Process

How it works

01

Add it to Chrome

Install Invoice My Clients: Time Tracker from the Chrome Web Store (Chrome 116 or later) and pin it to the toolbar.

02

Connect your account

Click "Sign in to Invoice My Clients", sign in on invoicemyclients.com the way you usually do, and approve the connection. The extension never asks for your password.

03

Track the work

Start the timer from the toolbar, the keyboard or the right-click menu, and stop it from Chrome or from the web app.

04

Invoice the hours

Open the Invoice tab, pick a client and the entries, choose how the lines are grouped, and send the invoice or save a draft.

One timer

The same timer in Chrome and in the web app

There is one timer per account. Start it in the extension and it is running in the Invoice My Clients web app; stop it there and the extension stops too. Start a new timer anywhere and the one running elsewhere stops, so two clocks never bill the same hour.

Rounding, grouping and invoicing rules are the web app’s, so an hour tracked in Chrome bills exactly like an hour tracked anywhere else.

Privacy

It tracks your time, not your browsing

The extension talks only to Invoice My Clients. It cannot read or change the websites you visit. It reads a page’s title only when you right-click and choose "Start timer for this page", and the text you selected only when you choose "Log time". It has no analytics or tracking code.

04 / FAQ

Chrome extension FAQs

Do I need an Invoice My Clients account?

Yes. The extension works with your Invoice My Clients account: time you track in it is saved to your account and shows up in the web app. Time tracking is included on the Professional plan and above. On the Free and Starter plans, the first time the extension logs time starts a 14-day time tracking trial, once per user.

Does the extension timer sync with the web app?

Yes. There is one timer per account. Start it in Chrome and stop it in the web app, or the other way round. Starting a timer anywhere stops the one running elsewhere on the account.

Can the extension see the websites I visit?

No. It has no access to the content of the websites you visit. It reads the current tab’s title only when you right-click and choose "Start timer for this page", and selected text only when you choose "Log time". It sends data only to Invoice My Clients.

Can I send an invoice from the extension?

Yes. In the Invoice tab, pick a client and the unbilled entries, group the lines by task, day or week, and send the invoice to your client’s email or save it as a draft. You can copy the payment link when the invoice has one, and get a notification when your client views the invoice and when it is paid.

What happens if I go offline or forget the timer?

Starts, stops and logged time are saved on your computer and sent when you are back online. If you step away with the timer running, the extension asks whether to keep the idle time, discard it, or stop when you left. A reminder can tell you a timer is still running at the end of the day.

How do I sign in and disconnect?

The extension has no password form. Click "Sign in to Invoice My Clients", sign in on invoicemyclients.com the way you usually do, and approve the connection. You can disconnect from the extension’s settings at any time.
