Free Templates Where Every Format Actually Computes
Photography invoice template
A photography invoice bills for two things: the shoot and the rights. The shoot is hours and deliverables; the rights are where photographers leave money on the table - or protect it.
Package lines and extras
Bill the package as one line at the agreed price, then extras individually: additional hours, second shooter, rush editing, extra retouched images. Itemized extras document what grew beyond the package - the polite alternative to scope-creep resentment.
Usage rights on the invoice
The usage field states what the client bought: personal use, web use, full commercial, duration, territory. Rights transferring on full payment (say so in the notes) is your leverage against slow payers, and the stated grant is your upsell path when the ad agency comes back for print rights.
Retainers and the balance
The retainer credit field shows the deposit already paid and computes the true balance. Deliver previews before final payment, full-resolution gallery after - the delivery-date and gallery fields keep that sequence on the record.

Photography invoice FAQ
How much retainer should I take?+
Thirty to fifty percent to book the date, non-refundable within a cancellation window. Weddings trend higher; corporate work often runs on POs instead.
Do I charge for raw files?+
Most photographers do not sell raws at all; those who do price them as a premium line item. Either way, say so on the invoice - the question always comes.
Is photography taxable?+
Frequently yes when tangible goods (prints, albums) deliver, and states increasingly tax digital delivery too. Separate service and product lines make the filing clean.
