Plumbing invoice template

Plumbing billing has its own physics: a service-call fee that credits into approved repairs, parts marked up against labor, and permit paperwork the homeowner will ask about at inspection time.

The service-call fee, handled right

Charge the diagnostic fee, list it, and credit it on the repair line when the customer approves work on the spot. Shown that way, the fee reads as a deposit rather than a penalty - and approval rates climb. Unapproved visits still cover their cost.

Labor and parts, split

The type column (Labor / Part / Fee) keeps the invoice auditable: customers accept parts pricing far more readily when labor is visibly its own line. Warranty terms differ between the two as well - state the parts warranty on the invoice.

License and permit fields

Your license number belongs on every invoice (many states require it), and the permit number, when one was pulled, saves the "was this permitted?" call at resale or inspection. Both fields live in the header of this template.

Plumbing invoice FAQ

Should I itemize every fitting?+

Group small consumables into one materials line; itemize significant parts (water heater, fixtures, valves) individually with model numbers for warranty traceability.

How do plumbers handle emergency pricing?+

A separate after-hours line at your stated emergency rate, disclosed before dispatch. Never fold it invisibly into labor - surprise multipliers are how reviews go bad.

Do I charge tax on plumbing work?+

Most states tax parts, and some tax labor on repairs but not improvements. The labor/parts split on this template is what makes filing that correctly possible.
