Free Templates Where Every Format Actually Computes
Timesheet template
A timesheet is the bridge between work performed and money invoiced. Kept daily, it is evidence; reconstructed at month end, it is fiction - and clients can tell the difference.
Record daily, bill confidently
Log the day, the task, and the hours while they are fresh. Specific descriptions ("migrated auth service, fixed session bug") survive invoice scrutiny; "development, 8h" invites it. This template splits regular from overtime hours so premium time is visible, not buried.
From hours to billable total
Enter your regular and overtime rates once and the sheet computes the billable total. That number flows straight onto your invoice as one line per week or per project, with the timesheet attached as backup.
Approval before invoicing
The approval field is the quiet power move: a client or manager who signed the weekly hours cannot dispute the monthly invoice built from them. Send timesheets weekly even when you bill monthly.
Timesheet checklist
| Field | What to include | Why it helps |
|---|---|---|
| Daily rows | Date, work performed, reg/OT hours | Fresh logs are credible logs |
| Rates | Regular and overtime rates | The sheet computes the billable total |
| Project code | Client or project reference | Multi-client weeks stay sortable |
| Approval | Approver name or signature | Approved hours are undisputed invoices |

Timesheet FAQ
How detailed should time entries be?+
One line per meaningful task. Enough that the client recognizes the work, not so much that logging becomes its own job. Six to ten words per entry is the sweet spot.
Should freelancers track overtime separately?+
If your agreement has any premium for rush, weekend, or after-hours work, yes - a separate column makes the premium automatic instead of a negotiation.
How do timesheets connect to invoices?+
Total the approved hours, multiply by rate, and invoice that amount with the timesheet attached. Invoice My Clients does this automatically with built-in time tracking.
