What the list covers

The list is the ten general holidays in section 166 of the Canada Labour Code, which apply to federally regulated workplaces. Each province sets its own statutory holidays (Family Day, Civic Holiday, Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day and others are provincial), so check your client's province.

  • Easter Monday is not one of the ten federal general holidays.
  • The Code lets employers substitute another day when a holiday falls on a non-working day; this calculator uses the actual dates, which already fall on weekends in those cases.
