Definition

What Net 45 means

Count 45 days from the day after the invoice date, including weekends and holidays. Net 45 sits between the monthly rhythm of Net 30 and the long wait of Net 60, and it often appears when a larger client wants a little more time than Net 30 to approve and pay.

When to use it

  • Larger clients whose approval chain (purchase order, receipt, sign-off) rarely finishes inside 30 days.
  • Contracts where the client asked for longer terms and you would rather agree 45 days than 60.
  • Work invoiced late in a month, so payment falls in the client's next-but-one payment run.

How it reads on the invoice

Payment terms: Net 45. Invoice date Monday, November 16, 2026. Amount due by Thursday, December 31, 2026.

Common mistakes

  • Rounding to "a month and a half". From 1 March 2026 Net 45 is 15 April, but from 15 December 2026 it is 29 January 2027, not the end of January.
  • Mixing calendar and business days. 45 business days is roughly nine weeks: an invoice dated 16 November 2026 on 45 US business days is due 22 January 2027, three weeks after the Net 45 date.
  • Missing the year-end holidays. A Net 45 date at the end of December, such as 31 December 2026, often waits for the January payment run. Send a reminder a week before.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is Net 45 from today?

Enter today as the invoice date above. The calculator counts 45 calendar days from tomorrow and shows the date, its weekday, and the next business day if it lands on a weekend or holiday.

Is Net 45 calendar days or business days?

Calendar days, unless your terms say "45 business days". The difference is large: about three extra weeks. Switch the count above to see both.

Why do some clients ask for Net 45?

Their invoices often need a purchase order match and an approval before the monthly payment run, and 30 days is not always enough. Agreeing 45 days up front is usually better than accepting Net 30 and being paid late.
